About UsWe aim to provide every Miami child with an education that allows them to achieve their wildest dreams. We envision a Miami where our children grow up to be leaders that use the skills and competencies honed by our education system—and the collective experiences of our people—to create a better future for our city.
From the original South Floridians like the Tequesta and Miccosukee peoples; technological innovators like Jeff Bezos and Sheryl Sandberg; cultural icons like Barry Jenkins, Pitbull and Celia Cruz; business and government leaders like D.A. Dorsey, Janet Reno and Maxine Clark, our city is defined by our chispa. We also have the power of our diversity, with people from all over the world coming to make a home on our shores. By challenging ourselves to harness this unique strength, we can serve as a proof point for how schools can support the growth of our individual and collective identities. |

Equity
All children deserve an excellent education, regardless of where they were born, their cultural background, their gender, their socioeconomic status or their current zip code. No two children are the same. Our education system of the future must right the wrongs of structural inequities upon which our current system is built, and embrace the unlimited potential in every child. In order to achieve equity, schools must be responsive to students’ real lives, creating rich educational experiences outside our school walls and funding each student’s education based on their needs. Students must have agency in their learning and in classrooms that promote and know their unique strengths. Families must have access to culturally-relevant opportunities that provide the foundation for their child’s educational success. Identity In an increasingly interconnected world, opportunities will be abundant for those prepared to navigate diverse environments. Over 90 percent of Miami’s students are people of color, and the languages they speak at home include Spanish, Creole, Portuguese and more. Our students hail from many different nationalities and a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. Miami’s diversity can provide students with unparalleled advantages. To support students' identities, we must embrace our diversity and build an inclusive school system that provides our children with an education that keeps up with the world. We will combine cultural competence, instructional differentiation and technological innovation to give our students an edge as leaders of tomorrow. We will expose students to content that is relevant across the cultures of our city, our state, our country and the world. Excellence The bar for excellence in education keeps rising. In Miami, we must embrace this challenge to ensure that our kids are positioned to initiate change and lead the wave of the future in this global economy. The first step forward is believing that all students can reach the bar we set for them. By aiming high, we can ensure that excellence is woven through all our educational endeavors. To reach educational excellence, we will embrace rigor in all our subjects, meaning students are able to analyze and apply what they are learning in complex, real-world scenarios. We will reject a one-size-fits-all approach to learning, ensuring every child has the support they need to be successful. We will celebrate, compensate and elevate educators as the individuals and professionals they are. Empowerment The most sustainable, relevant education systems are those built with an informed, empowered community. That means families are empowered to choose the right educational path for their children, students are empowered in their classes, principals are empowered to make decisions that are right for their school communities and teachers are empowered to create successful learning environments. We will ensure all families have access to information and opportunities to make school choices. We will fight to make sure that all public schools are accessible to every student in Miami. We will ensure policy decisions about our schools are made in partnership with the whole community. We will ensure people working in our schools are empowered to make decisions in the best interest of all learners. |
