COVID-19 Updates and Important Information for Parents

In light of the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 and its impact on school closures, we wanted to take a moment to share some tangibles thus far.

It is important to communicate family needs as they relate to school closures, distance teaching and learning, school services like meals and so on is a critical mission to which we all must contribute. Please do your part by filling out the forms below and encouraging your friends and families to do the same:
  • Complete a Mobile Device Needs Survey found on the MDCPS homepage or obtain a copy of the survey from your child's school. The survey is available in English, Spanish and Creole and will help schools better prepare to continue to educate your child in the likely event of school closures.
  • If your children do not have computers or access to the internet at home, you should complete the Mobile Device Agreement immediately. The agreement form is available in English, Spanish and Creole. For additional assistance, you can also call the Mobile Device Hotline at 305-995-HELP (4357) or speak with the school’s principal.
  • Check out the Instructional Continuity Plan for information on a distance learning process that would take place once schools close.
  • Have your child practice logging into the different applications and websites that will be used in the circumstance of distance learning.
  • If you, your child or family member is feeling stressed and anxious, please call the Miami Dade County Public School Mental Health Hotline at 305-995-7100 for assistance.

Important questions to ask yourself in this situation:

Picture
  1. How will the school communicate information during a period of closure?
  2. How can I make sure my kids are getting their daily assignments?
  3. What digital resources will my students need to access their assignments?
  4. What tools will teachers use to communicate with me?
  5. What hours will teachers be available?
  6. What are the things my child may want to communicate with their teacher before transitioning to distance learning?
  7. What questions/concerns should I address with school leaders before closures that impact my family (i.e. access to school meals during closure)?
  8. What should I communicate/plan with my employer about childcare?
  9. Is there someone in my family or community who can support caregiving?

Meal Distribution for Students

Food insecurity is a serious concern in our community. M-DCPS provides free breakfast for all students and free or reduced-price lunch to more than 73 percent of students. With the support of local community partners, M-DCPS is ready to implement a community feeding plan to provide meals for ALL students.

Schools will provide hot grab-and-go meals for both breakfast and lunch between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the week of March 15th.

These meals will be prepared by M-DCPS food service personnel. Students can report to their enrolled school or their neighborhood school to collect the meals. Meal distribution will take place in an area along the external perimeter of the building.
